FOUNDER AND BOARD CHAIRPERSON
Dr. Hansbert Mkonji is a medical doctor and public health advocate from Tanzania with experience in clinical medicine, mental health, neurology, maternal and child health, and community health programs. He has served in leadership roles within healthcare institutions, including coordinating health services and supporting the management of non-communicable diseases at the district level. Dr. Mkonji is the founder and chief executive officer of Caring Heart Foundation (CHF), a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving access to healthcare for underserved populations through health education, disease prevention, advocacy, research, and community-based interventions. Under his leadership, the organization has implemented programs focusing on epilepsy awareness, mental health promotion, HIV/AIDS prevention, maternal and child health, health insurance access, disability support, and non-communicable disease screening. With expertise in electroencephalography (EEG), psychiatry, and general medical practice, Dr. Mkonji is passionate about strengthening health systems, promoting equitable healthcare access, and developing sustainable solutions to address health challenges in rural and vulnerable communities across Tanzania.

Dr. Joanitha Rwiza is a medical doctor and development professional serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Caring Heart Foundation (CHF). She is passionate about improving access to healthcare and advancing social inclusion, particularly for underserved and vulnerable communities. As CEO, Dr. Rwiza provides strategic leadership to the Foundation’s programs in health promotion, community empowerment, women and children’s wellbeing, gender-based violence prevention, and social inclusion. She is committed to building partnerships that translate community needs into practical, sustainable interventions. Through her leadership, Caring Heart Foundation seeks to strengthen community health systems, empower individuals and families, and contribute to healthier, more inclusive communities.
